Since joining We Change Lives in 2019, Naomi's career journey has been life-changing – not only for the people WCL supports, but for her own life. Her story is a heart-warming reminder of how a career at WCL can truly take shape and make a difference.
Four years ago, Naomi joined WCL with a strong desire to help people, and her heartfelt passion for caring for others led her to become a Night Support Worker at Westleigh House. With no prior experience in a care role, Naomi was eager to learn and grow her skillset. "I was given the opportunity to complete my NVQ Level Two care certificate alongside working," Naomi says. "This gave me the confidence and self-belief to go on to apply for a Recovery Support Specialist role at Westleigh."
As a Recovery Support Specialist, Naomi managed the day-to-day running of the Westleigh service, a crucial part of the community of Warrington that supports people with long-term mental health needs.
Naomi's journey in supporting the We Change Lives community was well underway: "This role again helped me to grow in confidence and really see what a difference we can make.” With the love and unwavering commitment from Naomi and the entire support team, WCL has been able to make a true difference in people's lives.
Working at WCL offers the great advantage of having a flexible career path that allows you to explore new and exciting opportunities that you may not have considered before! Naomi's experience as a Recovery Support Specialist fuelled her desire to care for others, and this in turn has led to her joining WCL's Recruitment and Retention team. Naomi is now playing a huge part in supporting the amazing staff who make it their mission to help communities in Warrington and the wider region of Cheshire.
Reflecting on her career journey so far, Naomi says that building a career at WCL has had a truly positive effect on her life as well as on others: "I took on a role as a carer to positively impact the lives of the people we support, not realizing how much of a positive impact my role would have on my own life.” She adds, “I feel like my journey through the different roles with WCL has been life-changing, and I have felt supported and encouraged every step of the way.”
Naomi finds her career at WCL to be special, not only because of the wide variety of career options available but also due to the meaningful connections you create with others: “Going back into service and still feeling that relationship I build with people is heart-warming," Naomi shares. "I enjoyed working with staff from all different walks of life and seeing how we all differ, yet can become a team to provide the best care."
Naomi's story is truly inspiring for anyone who is contemplating a career in the charity sector or exploring the diverse range of career opportunities that a job in care can lead to!
